Ryan Poles displayed his GENIUS by hiring Shane Waldron…it’s an absolute “riding the fence” hire.
IN A GOOD WAY!
Shane Waldron is fully capable of continuing the development of Justin Fields. Look at the job he did with resurrecting Geno Smith and Drew Lock in Seattle the last few yrs! At 32 Geno Smith threw for 4,282 yards, 30 TDs, and 70% completion percentage. Geno hadn't thrown for over 1,000 yards since 2014!
Shane Waldron is also capable of helping to acclimate Caleb Williams seamlessly to the NFL. His system is a great balance of run & pass which helps a rookie QB, even a generational one, nor have to carry the entire offense with his arm. He'd come into a one of the best situations a rookie QB has in years. He'd have weapons like DJ Moore, Cole Kmet, and the possibility of adding a top tier WR in the draft or free agency to play WR2. We have been a top tier rushing offense over the last 2 yrs. Our offense would easily be one of the best in the NFC!
There are quite a few options/directions Poles could go at QB. National media & Bears fans are currently only discussing Justin Fields or Caleb Williams as options for the Bears future QB. It's QUITE possible Ryan Poles could trade back and select a QB like Jayden Daniels from LSU. He could trade back and wait to see if a QB falls later in the 1st round, or draft a Day 2 QB to compete with Fields. One thing we know about Ryan Poles is that he values draft picks and he's ok trading back for future draft capital and picking a safer player. He’s just that unpredictable.
Poles has never done what media/fans EXPECTED him to do in the draft and that’s what I love about him as our GM!
Hiring Waldron doesn't indicate moving on from Justin Fields for Caleb Williams. If they hired Kliff Kingsbury it would've been a forgegone conclusion. In my opinion it's still 50/50 what Ryan Poles does at QB. It’s a GREAT chess move. NFL GMs can’t DEFINITIVELY gauge if they are moving on or keeping Fields.
We can all ASSUME based on “logic” but assuming isn’t DEFINITE. This hire keeps the #1 picks trade value as well as Justin Fields trade value high. Ryan Poles can keep a poker face all the way until NFL Draft forcing a team to overpay in a trade for the #1 pick or for Justin Fields.
This is a GREAT hire for the future of this offense...no matter WHO is QB1 in 2024!
Let Poles cook!
Keep up the great work. Excited to see what kinds of plays the Bears will run next season. Bear down!
We are truly in a GREAT situation this offseason! Ryan Poles is COOKIN’! #BEARDOWN #DABEARS 🐻⬇️😤
