Jackson Powers-Johnson Scouting Report

JACKSON POWERS JOHNSON BEST CENTER IN CLASS

Today I am giving my full scouting report on JACKSON POWERS JOHNSON, Oregon’s center and the guy who I believe is the BEST Center in this year draft class, LETS GET RIGHT INTO IT.

I watched 10 games of tape from JPJ’s 2023 tape, and 4 from 2022 when he played guard. He played the 2023 season at just 20 years old, he just turned 21 a couple of weeks ago. He’s 6’3, 335 pounds, a monster center prospect. Let's dive into his strengths and weaknesses.

Strengths – 90.6 PASS Blocking grade, never allowed a SINGLE sack in college and only 1 QB hit in nearly 1,400 snaps at Oregon. Violent ACTIVE hands with impressive technique. INCREDIBLE anchor, honestly one of the strongest interior linemen ive studied. looked even better at the senior bowl. Fluid mover for his size with impressive athleticism. A massive frame, with REAL NFL Power and a broad base. Loves to impose his will and DOMINATE defenders. You won’t see a guy pancaking opponents much more than this guy. He's an elite pass protector and run blocker. He's a TONE setter who plays with a Nasty demeanor. He's so technically sound and has upside to get even better. Dominates on duo and combo blocks. Has one of the strongest anchors ive ever seen. Great footwork helps him recover. Can play GUARD or center. He’s very smart, keeps his head on a swivel and recognizes stunts and extra blitzers.

Weaknesses - Ryan Poles prefers length and athleticism, both could be questions with JPJ. Too many holding calls, had 9 penalties in 2023 and 14 overall. ONLY 1 full year as a starter at Center

Needs to keep his pad level low, tendency to play upright at times. Lost balance trying to PANCAKE opponents at time. Heaviest center in draft history? 335 pounds!!

He didn’t face a lot of TOP competition on tape, but DOMINATED the nations best at the senior bowl.

His athleticism will be questioned by some if he’s unable to test at the combine, but again he looked EXTREMELY athletic at the senior bowl and I watched him closely first hand.

Overall I think he has easily cemented himself as the BEST center in this years draft and in my opinion should be a LOCK to go in the 1st round.

ON tape he is NEARLY flawless, a perfect pass protector, never giving up a sack in his entire career. He has the versatility to play GUARD or center. He has a HIGH floor and a PRO bowl type of ceiling.

Jackson Powers-Johnson is MY FAVORITE offensive lineman in this year’s draft class. I spoke to him four different times at the senior bowl. He was my OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK. He fits the PROFILE of what the bears look for in an offensive lineman, the only concern would be his arm length, but playing center, that is NOT a concern to me.

Jackson Powers Johnson is the PERFECT player for ryan poles to target to FINALLY solve our issue at the center position.

I would be blown away if poles was able to land him in the draft. Right now we’d have to trade down from #9 in order to land him, but I am CERTAINLY not ruling that out. HE IS a perfect target for the Chicago bears and would immediately upgrade our offensive line. JPJ should make an IMMEDIATE impact in the NFL and be an ANCHOR in the middle of an offensive line. He is a plug and play day 1 starter with the upside of being one of being one of the best centers in football. REMEMBER his name. I think this years center class is intriguing and there are other names I really like at the position, but right now Jackson Powers Johnson Stands out as the best in the class. I will be continuing my scouting reports, next up on my list is Malik Nabers. I have already begun the process of watching his 2023 season, stay tuned for that!! FULL VIDEO SCOUTING REPORT HERE:
