Just woke up & as I predicted…#BEARSTWITTER that didn’t see the Kevin Warren interview last night are in ready, set, go mode. 😂
So now folks can’t give their opinion on what Kevin Warren who is the Bears President says…
Yet folks have been taking victory laps since Rapoport reported it would take a hisoric haul for Bears to move off of the #1 pick? That’s wild.
Yesterday Ian Rapoport was asked about a trade back scenario &
ALSO discussed a hypothetical way the Bears can get a “historic haul” without it coming from ONE TEAM (video in link below). He gave an example of Bears going back to 2 then trade back with the Giants & collecting 1st rounders from multiple teams thus making it a HISTORIC trade.
If you recall it was reported the Bears allegedly had the option to trade back to 2 with the Texans & then trade back again but they chose to take the haul from the Panthers.
So it’s not out of the realm of possibilities especially with more teams being QB needy this yr & positioned in the top half if the 1st rd.
In Jarrett Payton's interview with Kevin Warren, Warren said he will be involved with the draft with Poles and Cunningham. Let’s ignore the Justin Fields part since that has everyone on TILT whether you’re a pro Fields or pro draft a qb.
-He mentioned having a draft strategy like the Bears had last year that allowed them to obtain DJ Moore, draft multiple building block players like Darnell Wright, Tyrique Stevenson, & Gervon Dexter. He also mentioned it gave them the ability to trade for Montez Sweat. (Bears traded a 2nd rd 2024 pick but have 2 1sts in the 2024 draft)
-He said “If we can replicate back to back years to really be smart about how we handle our draft capital this year it can be a real special time for the Chicago Bears.
-He mentioned the ‘85 Bears had multiple starters out of that draft & he’s cognizant & conscientious that he needs to be there working hand in hand with Ryan Poles to help support & challenge a thought process…
-He also mentioned getting to the combine & working together with Ryan Poles & Ian Cunningham …that’s when negotiations began on the trade back last year.
This could very well end in Justin Fields being traded & ALSO a trade back from #1 if the right offers are presented. It sounds like ALL options are still on the table.
To be clear I mean ANY of the following are still possible to obtain 2024 & FUTURE draft capital.
-Trading Fields
-Trading the #1
-Trading the #9
As for the #1, if they don’t like the offers then & only then will they decide to stand pat at #1…but they are OPEN to offers & no SOLID decision has been made in the direction @ QB at this point.
A team picking at #1 does not have to have their President SELL the idea they are entertaining trading back in an interview if it’s sold on picking at #1. They control the draft.
As I’ve been saying I’m excited to get to the Combine where team execs meet and begin discussions on draft and player trades. That’s when information will come out giving more exact details on what teams are talking to each other and what draft picks & players are being discussed in these trades.
We’re in such a great position regardless what we decide to do!
